Getting a deep AI voice that sounds like a trailer, not a phone menu

Every TTS library claims a “deep” voice, and most of them are just a normal voice pitched down. Real depth is resonance and pacing: the voice sits low, moves slowly, and leaves silence between phrases. That comes from the recording the voice was built from and from how you write for it.

Which voices are actually deep

This page filters to voices whose source recordings sit in the low register: Onyx and Fenrir (American), Lewis and Georgie (British), Alex (Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese) and 子墨 for Chinese. None of them is artificially pitched; pitch-shifting a voice down adds a hollow, robotic colour, which is exactly what you're trying to avoid. If you need something lower than these, the answer is a different recording, not a slider. Preview each candidate with a full sentence from your script rather than a single word: depth shows in how a voice lands the end of a phrase, and that is exactly what a one-word test hides.

Writing for a deep voice

Depth needs space. Long, comma-heavy sentences turn a deep voice into a mumble. Write one idea per line. Put a full stop after it, even if grammar wants a comma. Use the trailer cadence: statement, pause, consequence. “One city. One night. Everything changes.” The engine takes each full stop as a beat, and the silence between beats is what makes the read feel heavy rather than fast.

Where deep voices work and where they don't

Trailers, documentary openers, sports intros, luxury product films: yes. A 6-minute tutorial: no — depth turns into monotone around the two-minute mark, and viewers tune out. For long educational content, use the narrator page and pick a mid-register voice. Keep the deep voice for the first 15 seconds and the closing line, where it does the most work.

No, on purpose. Pitch-shifting adds a hollow, synthetic colour.

Is there a deep female voice?

Emma (British) is the lowest female voice in the set, tagged warm rather than deep. A dedicated low female voice is on the roadmap.

Is it a “movie trailer voice”?

It's the register and cadence of one. It is not a clone of any specific trailer narrator, and impersonating one is not allowed.

Which format do I get?
