Instagram carries the most mixed bag of formats of any platform: the same account may post Reels, single photos, multi-slide carousels and Stories, each with its own link shape and its own downloadability. Understanding the differences saves most of the trial and error.
Reels links start with instagram.com/reel/, ordinary video posts with /p/. Both are supported, and both return the MP4 that Instagram transcoded. That distinction matters: Instagram re-encodes on upload, so what you download is the platform's highest-quality distribution copy, not the master file sitting on the creator's machine. That ceiling applies to every Instagram downloader — none can serve a file better than the one Instagram itself holds.
A carousel can hold up to 20 photos or videos. After resolving, each item gets its own row with its type labelled, so you can download slide 3 and slide 7 and skip the rest. This is genuinely useful for competitive research, where usually only two or three slides carry the message you were after.
Photos come back as JPEG at the dimensions Instagram stores — typically 1080×1080 for squares and 1080×1350 for portraits. Instagram compresses large uploads, so if you need a truly untouched original you have to ask the creator for the source. Videos are H.264 MP4: we don't transcode, don't add a watermark and don't touch the bitrate.
Private account content requires an authorised logged-in session, so it cannot be resolved. Stories disappear from the platform after 24 hours, and an expired link resolves to nothing. We never ask for your Instagram username or password and never log in on your behalf — any download site that asks you to hand over your credentials deserves your suspicion, not your account.

Only Stories from public accounts that are still within their 24-hour window may resolve. Once a Story expires it is gone from the platform, and Stories from private accounts are never accessible.
Yes. Instagram doesn't burn a watermark into Reels or video posts, and we don't add one of our own — the MP4 comes out frame-for-frame as stored. The exception is a Reel re-uploaded from TikTok: that mark was baked into the pixels before it ever reached Instagram, and no downloader can lift it back off.
No, and we never ask for credentials. That is also why private account content cannot be downloaded — it is a permissions boundary, not a limitation of the tool.
